1 gallon of water
1/4 cup of apple cider or white vinegar
1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide
2 Tablespoons of sea salt or Himalayan salt
5 drops of grapefruit seed extract (This is not essential, but adds to the disinfectant power of your wash, and can be found at health food stores or on-line. Do not confuse with grape seed extract.)
Mix together. You may also opt to spray it on fruit and leave for 5 minutes before rinsing. For lettuce and greens, I prefer to soak the greens in the liquid so it can seep into all the cracks and crevices and be given some time to do its disinfectant job. To soak, pour liquid over produce to cover. If produce is particularly dirty, use a vegetable brush to scrub dirt off. Leave to soak for 5 minutes. Rinse and dry.
You can also put this mixture in a spray bottle to spray on kitchen counters, sink and cutting boards each night as a disinfectant.
