Homemade Electrolyte Drink

For prevention of dehydration especially in children with fever due to flu or infection

  • 1 quart of filtered or distilled water
  • 1/3 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice with seeds removed
  • 1/3 cup of raw honey or raw fermented honey*
  • 3/4 teaspoon of unrefined Himalayan or Celtic sea salt

Stir together the lemon juice and honey until the honey is liquefied by the acidity of the lemon juice. Add the honey/lemon mixture and the salt to the water. Mix. Feel free to add the juice of an orange, pineapple or other fruit for additional flavor if that will make it more palatable to your child.

*In babies less than a year old, do not use honey. Also, this amount of lemon juice can be too acidic for a baby to tolerate. Instead, use 2 Tablespoons of lemon juice and 3 Tablespoons of maple syrup.
